The New Moon on February 27 finds Luna in an interesting situation. She is in the first decan of Pisces, a section of a Jupiter ruled sign that is also associated with Saturn. After travelling for a few days through Saturn’s domiciles, this often brings a sense of accomplishment, but also moving onward to something new. It is a place of cautious optimism.
On March 1, Venus stations retrograde at °10 Aries. She is currently an Evening Star, rising after the Sun and preparing for their meeting. The Venus retrograde cycle has been associated with the Descent of Innana for millennia. In Aries, Her She can indicate a feisty disposition, entering the darkness more to settle a grudge than rescue a lover. Venus Retrograde periods often involve review of the past loves, and also a resurgence of creative interests and artistic obsessions from previous eras. When She re-enters Pisces on the 27th, Her ruminating on the past may take a more nostalgic tone, and this is a good time to revise any work done between the first and now.
The Sun in Pisces will square Jupiter in Gemini on the 2nd. This is a one-sided reception, with the Sun in Jupiter’s sign looking for inspiration from a planet in detriment that may be struggling to benefit the Gemini part of our chart. There may be questions about what we really value, and we may be spurred forward in spiritual pursuits that we don’t necessarily feel we have the energy for. In the end, this will prove to be good for us.
Also on the 2nd, Mercury meets Neptune, also in Pisces. This is a dreamy, internal aspect. Mercury will likely misplace his keys, forget emails, and find His journeys interrupted by long digressions that lead to somewhere intriguing, if not productive.
On the 9th, Mercury will conjunct Venus in Aries, and there could be a lot of discussion about exactly what Venus means to get from her travels downward.
The Sun and Saturn have a very serious meeting with one another on the 12th, in the emotional boardroom of Pisces. This could be a grievances and unresolved conflicts session, or it could be a time of finding grounded support through difficult times.
March 14th brings a Lunar Eclipse at °23 Virgo. This is an interesting slice of Virgo, with the decan also ruled by Mercury. Dual dignity aside, the ends of Mutable Signs are often more dissolute than productive. The Picatrix associates this decan with “debility, age, infirmity, sloth” and a number of other enjoyable things. Agrippa is even more optimistic, including “destruction of trees and depopulation of lands.” When we see associations like these, it’s often because of some other, more arcane correspondence. In this case, it is likely because this decan lies within the Via Combusta, a stretch of the zodiac that occupies parts of both Virgo and Scorpio. It’s lore is opaque and uncertain, much like a lunar eclipse itself. Tying this back to the New Moon and it’s themes of cautious optimism and reflection, this could be a good time to think about what comes after accomplishment, because everything is temporary.
The Solar Eclipse at the end of the month brings a very different energy at °9 Aries on the 29th. This is a bold, strong decan, beginning the cycle of the astrological year ready to get to work.
