We begin our look at the astrology of January with the New Moon on December 30, at 9° Capricorn. This lunation finds the Moon applying to her Lord Saturn, a reception that gives a helpful tone to what could be a more difficult start for Her. The first Decan of Capricorn is associated with luck, both good and bad, as well as a kick start to matters that are a bit “stuck.” In Capricorn, the Moon wants to be productive, and this configuration suggests she’ll have an easier time than she might otherwise when in the sign of her detriment.
On January 2nd, Venus moves into Pisces, the sign of her exaltation. Matters of love and art, as well as commerce, may benefit in a broad sense. She is, however, moving toward a conjunction with Saturn on the 18th, which could put a bit of a damper on the party. More sober, productive sorts of fun are suggested.
The 6th sees retrograde Mars returning to Cancer. He will now begin to “take care” of unfinished business left over from October, when he entered his shadow. The key with any retrograde shadow is to reflect, and this is doubly the case when in Luna’s domicile.
Mercury enters Capricorn on the 8th. He is still coming out of the shadow of his retrograde, and will find this time quite productive as he ties up loose ends in the usual Mercury areas such as communication. This is a good time to work on getting out emails that got lost in the holiday shuffle.
January’s second lunation is the Full Moon on the 13th, at 23° Cancer. In the third decan of Cancer, she is likely to be concerned both with material matters, as well as what those mean in terms of her status. Today also sees her applying to a conjunction with retrograde Mars, on a mission of his own. Old hurts may come up, as well as the opportunity to recapture a lost passion. On the 19th, the Sun moves into Aquarius, followed a few days later on the 27th by Mercury. Our Messenger is speeding toward his meeting with the Sun in early February. He’s seen much in the dark Capricorn corridors, and will tend to be focused on letting the King know what his subjects are saying, and strongly suggesting that Sol listen.
